According to a recent report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, total national sales in 2005 rose 2.8% from the previous year, while the number of customers slipped 1.4%, from 14.7 million to 14.5 million. The sale of hunting licenses, tags and stamps is the main funding mechanism for state conservation agencies.
