Spring Turkey Hunting: Continued Taunting

The spring turkey hunting season is over in my neck of the woods and again this year Meleagris gallopavo was not convinced I was a lovely hen waiting for an amorous liaison. I did get the attention of a squirrel and it, too, was not impressed and in no uncertain terms chattered that I should leave his patch of hardwoods. I did get a few gobbles and I did a little running-and-gunning but no luck. The next morning when I let Coop out to relieve himself the tom, leaving his roost, gave a few gobbles, which I figure roughly tranlates to "see you next season, sweetheart."

Well, I'm sorry you didn't get a turkey. There's always next year though.

I finally got my first turkey this spring, and it was so deceptively easy that I'm sure it will be my last. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We seem to be acquiring a lot of friends with vineyards these days, and they're eager for us to take out the pesky turkeys that eat wine grapes and wreck vines. Like 365 days a year. We have to explain to them that there are seasons we must abide by...

Perhaps the turkey in the vineyard were "under the influence"? Were their gobbles slured?

My husband and I have a little hunting competition every year. He shot a pretty good size turkey this year. I was unsuccessful. He better watch out come deer season.

Didn't get my license for Spring but had some fun using my mouth calls to get some gobbler response from a distance.

Had a jake running in the yard for a while. Maybe he will be ready for the Fall.
